The scene is one of several tear-jerkers in the second volume of episodes, released on Christmas Day. In addition to a whirlwind of emotional sequences, the back half of the season is finally beginning to provide some answers about the Upside Down and the evils that Hawkins has been facing this whole time.

"Escape From Camazotz," the sixth episode of Stranger Things 5, has been circled in my mind since the episode titles were announced in the fall of 2024. I think fans started putting the connections together between where Max was and A Wrinkle in Time at that point.

Now streaming, episodes 5, 6, and 7 were a relatively bland stretch of the show. They include a breakup, a big Will reveal, and more underwhelming moments.
