Born Amos Easton in Georgia, he moved to Indianapolis and later Chicago, where he became a prolific recording artist in the 1930s. His smooth, jazzy blues style and witty lyrics made him popular, and he recorded over 150 songs for labels like Bluebird and Vocalion.
