Harvesting Flax: Part 3 Retting: Plan B Retting is the process of releasing the fibers from the flax stalk. Retting is essentially controlled rotting. There are several ways to Ret flax , ‘soaking’ is a method that has consistently worked well for me. I soak the flax in water until the fibers are released. The trick is to not over soak. Better to under-ret than over-ret. I can always ret again. When the flax is done retting, it is rinsed and dried thoroughly. To be continued… #hornandfiber #flax
