This is my skin on frame kayak de-watering and re-entry technique. I can do this in a medium volume Greenland kayak in mild conditions, and in one of my modern kayaks in moderately rough conditions. . To make this work you need either the buoyancy from a dry suit or a high-volume PFD, and a kayak that weighs less than 40 pounds. . On my kayaks, I normally hand wrap my winders but with so many stringers on a canoe I usually take a shortcut with the drill. These definitely aren’t as nice to lash with, but they’re a heck of a lot faster to make. The cord itself is a flat waxed artificial sinew that is about 30% stronger than the same product that is commonly available.
