Tagging is an essential part of shark research depending on the questions we are trying to answer. Proper handling of these sharks is the priority. This video shows the ASI team in a massive school of menhaden off of Long Island, NY this past week doing just that. Here we capture a sandbar shark and deploy an M tag from NOAA. The rod has 80-pound test to allow for a quick fight, the shark is tagged and the hook is removed. Great job by this team and a good example of tag and release. 🦈 #shark #
