These free-tailed bats are just returning from their nightly hunt for insects. Note that each bat you see has just eaten 3,000 to 5,000 insects such as flying ants, flying termites, corn-borer moths, gnats, mosquitoes and beetles. Every morning at dawn, for the past two months, we have been checking on and rescuing bats from this colony. Travis is a rescued Mexican free-tailed bat, who is also a permanent resident here at the sanctuary. He was rescued back in December during the cold-snap. He has become so accustomed to the fine dinning of mealworms we provide, that he decided to honor us with the best munching sounds tonight.
