When Louis Armstrong died in 1971 the Fante chiefs organized a memorial service and planted a tree at his ancestral home of Abandze at Fort Amsterdam followed by a flag performance by the Asafo members. According to an organization formed in the late 1960s called the African Descendants Association Foundation (ADAF). They tried to raise funds for the restoration of Fort Amsterdam through a variety of activities which included the memorial service for Louis Armstrong in the 1970s. #louisarmstrong
